Sophia skipped into the Johannesburg Quirkstation Office in Febuary 2015, to join the team as a Junior Copywriter. Having studied a BA in Philosophy and Linguistics, she went on to do an Honours degree in Cognitive Science. Sophia had done one or two modules in Cognitive Science during undergrad and found learning about the human brain and how we make decisions absolutely fascinating. She had only ever lived in Durban until she decided to take the plunge and start a new adventure in Jozi only a few days before she started here at Quirk. Due to series of unfortunate events, Sophia picked up the nickname Sophelicious in undergrad, which morphed into the more commonly used “Sophelish”. Please note: this is not an invitation to call her Sophelicious. Unless you pay some sort of remittance (and by remittance, she means CHOCOLATE).
Described as “curious, generous and alive” by an assortment of besties, Sophia would choose to spend the apocalypse in Sơn Đoòng Cave in Vietnam, having a forest-pool-dance party with all her favourite humans. Sophia loves singing and until recently, sang soprano in a swing acapella trio called Dr Fly and the Nurses. Her greatest extravagance is spontaneous, can’t-quite-afford-it-but-really-want-to-go-anyway weekends around the country – preferably in the back of a Land Cruiser. The cartoon that she thinks resembles her most is Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time. Although she is not nearly as angst as Marceline, they both love music, travel and doing their own thing. In the words of Finn, “a radical dame who likes to play games”.
If not now, when?
