There are certain sounds you can associate with Spring. Birds chirping, bees buzzing and QuirkStars rejoicing in the warmer weather. In September 2012, Matt Willis brought with him a whole lot of new noise into the Cape Town QuirkStation.
The kind to blow his own trumpet and become his own beatbox, Matt completed his Bachelor in Music and Jazz at the University of Cape Town in 2006. The choice was simple; Matt had the passion, creativity and an itch that needed scratching. He also had a trombone.
Since then, Matt’s career can only be described as unusual. He’s been part of a cruise ship band, travelling between Alaska and Mexico, and a professional poker player – a job that took him all the way to Vegas where he dropped $13 000 in a single night.
Perhaps looking for something a little calmer, Matt figured he could make a living from his technology addiction – something he admits has been a problem ever since he played a helicopter game on his father’s computer at age 5. Now he’s more into flying through cyberspace, spending his time using Facebook,Hootsuite, Soundcloud and BTDigg.
